Bastille Day Festivities

Hello Everyone,

I cant believe this but I leave France in 2 weeks from wednesday! So Crazy! the time went by so fast! On July 14th France had Bastille day (which is kind of like our 4th of July) we went Brochanting (like a swap meet but cooler) all day and hung out at the windmill and watched some magic shows and bands play.
It reminded me of Poway days at home and made me really miss it. It was weird because it felt like 4th of July, it even has the same colors blue white and red as they say but it was France. the one thing I can say about America is they we have WAY better patriotic songs I had "And I am proud to be and American..where at least I know I'm free" song stuck in my head all day. It was pretty funny Kirsty and I singing it VERY quietly to ourselves. We grabbed a bite to eat and I had some French fries, which they just call fries and some really yummy french lemonade.
At the fair there was a place where you could go shooting for 1 euro 6 different guns! so needless to say we had a lot of fun doing that.
got em'
At night there was a show and fireworks over by the town windmill. It was so much fun! In the region of France where I am at it is tradition to have these giants in a parade of lights and everyone walked up the street at night with torches behind them. What a sight to see!
And after that there was a show by the windmill that was sooo funny to us, because they danced to all these american songs and we just had a great time seeing it. Kirsty and I would just laugh so hard we almost pee'd our pants. I absolutely loved it! It was about a romance back in the day where a boy and girl fell in love in Marpent and couldn't get married because their families didn't like each other. Classic!Great Dance Moves hehe... those are french men in the play (I pretended they were americans but shhhh!)
the finale with the giants, I heard it takes about 4 people to work the big ones..
When all was said and done we went to the lake to watch the fireworks around 11:00PM and met up with everyone, and again they played american music :) made me feel right at home during the show. And then we hurried back to the windmill to watch the fireworks in Marpent.
It ended up being a pretty fun Bastille Day! Hope you enjoyed these photos and stay tuned for my trip this weekend to Dinant Belgium, it was beautiful!

Love and a Hug,

Nicole
