A Friday in Maubeuge

Hello Again Everyone!
Right now I am sitting in my bed so excited to share these photos with you and my weekend! It was completely amazing! On Friday I was able to go out with Mary and walk around the town of Maubeuge France while she got her haircut. I am going to be honest, at first it was a little intimidating by myself. I went in a little shoe store to comfort me, ahhh shoes :) but little did I know that it would be my first french conversation gone wrong! I walked in the store and was completely mesmerized by all of the shoes, and a women came out and started talking to me. I was just stunned and didn't know what she was saying so I just smiled. She kept talking to me and then waited for my response. I stood there probably looking like a confused puppy. All I could say was "I am American" she laughed and spoke more french! and then pointed at me her eye and pointed in a circle I am assuming see was saying welcome to just look around or something. I was so embarrassed I really wish I took french in high school instead of spanish right now. But who knew I would be in France? I just wish I could have at least retained some more information from French on Tape before I left. Oh well..

Anyways shortly after the shoe store incident I quickly left and walked FAR FAR away.. Here are some of the pictures I took! It was so neat to walk around a town you have never been in and just take photos. I enjoyed myself very much.
So did you know Moulin means Mill in French?! I totally freaked out when I saw this sign saying Moulin. I know it wasn't the Moulin Rouge but how can you complain! It was so amazing. I cant wait to see the real thing.. if you didn't know thats one of my favorite movies of all time :)
Beautiful right!? Well later on as I was walking I stumbled upon the Tourist information center, but it was closed. But the building was so beautiful I had to take a picture and also a look around the area.
When you walked inside the these were the arch ways
The back view of the once gates to the city but now turned tourist information site (How cool a draw bridge! This was my first real one I've ever seen!)
Can anyone say gorgeous? This is a view off the side of the fortified city. I found out that this is very normal to find in cities in Northern France from the war. Pretty amazingly abnormal if I do say myself. These pictures do NOT do it justice, but heres a little taste of the rest..
Underneath view by the drawbridge (Can you see the tourist information center in the left hand corner? Cool huh?!)
Heres a view of the wall looking up
They also had these tunnels along the bottom, it seemed interesting to me how they had systems and things to go through to protect their city. Unfortunately it was blocked off to tourist..
All and All I had a wonderful time in Maubeuge and would totally love to go back and explore more! it was incredibly close to where I am at, only like 15 minutes! I might just walk over there soon :) Au Revoir until I write again of Saturdays trip! Stay tuned!

Love and an Hug,
Nicole
